Why attend - is this Masterclass right for me?

Does your organization face these challenges?

  • Your traditional stage-and-gate new product system seems slow, cumbersome, and unable to deal with today's customer responsiveness imperative
  • You want your idea-to-launch system to be faster, more agile, more adaptive to constant change
  • You’ve heard about Agile development for software products and wonder if it works for physical or manufactured new products
  • You want to know what leading firms are doing to deal with today’s realities – how they are driving products to market faster and better – what’s the latest thinking here?
  • Your methods are not responsive to changing customer requirements, and products often miss the key benefits customers value

If so, this Masterclass will provide you with the specific answers you seek.

In two highly practical days, Dr. Cooper will share how leading firms are getting superb results by moving beyond traditional Stage-Gate® systems to make processes more agile, lean, and responsive to customers. Specifically, he will cover how to:

  • Leverage Agile project management methods to help with dynamic product requirements and the need for rapid strategic pivots
  • Get the project right by building experimentation and iterations (scrums and time-boxed sprints) into processes
  • Use customer feedback during iterations to launch the right product
  • Reconcile contradictions between Agile principles and Stage-Gate® (for example, pre-planning versus planning-on-the-fly)
  • Modify both models to yield a single effective system
  • Adapt Agile methods to accommodate physical products

This Masterclass draws on Dr. Cooper's wealth of experience working with the world’s most successful and forward-thinking firms.

  1. Interactive lecture & discussion sessions, including lots of question-and-answer opportunities and Cooper’s famous “hot questions” sessions
  2. Numerous case studies, illustrations, and practical examples from other companies and countries
  3. Templates, guidelines and checklists

Key Benefits

Discover why and how leading firms are moving beyond traditional Stage-Gate® systems -- how they're not only making processes more agile and responsive, but dramatically faster as well. Find out what specific steps they took to achieve superb performance results and which ones you can and should apply in your organization. By participating you will learn to:

  • Build Agile project management into your idea-to-launch gating system. Classic project management is fine for stable, predicable environments. But innovation projects often face quite uncertain and unstable environments. Learn how Agile project management methods meet the requirements of ever-moving project targets and strategic pivots
  • Get the project right by building in experimentation and iterations (scrums and time-boxed sprints). Sometimes no amount of pre-development work, such as technical assessment or voice-of customer efforts, can get all the answers before Development begins. Agile-Stage-Gate® helps the product and project evolve and gain definition as Development proceeds. Constant customer feedback via iterations ensures the product is right
  • Integrate Agile project management with Stage-Gate® for physical or manufactured new products. Some principles of Agile and Stage-Gate® may seem to conflict (for example, pre-planning versus planning-on-the-fly), thus an integrated Agile-Stage-Gate® hybrid system is needed. Learn how to to modify both models to yield an effective system; what changes are needed to handle physical products
  • Boost your project teams’ motivation and performance by fostering self-managed teams -- allow people to be creative, innovative, recognized for their expertise, and in control of their project. Higher team morale is the result. Create the right climate for bolder more agile innovation.
