Lost in Transition: Matching Your Leadership Style to Organizational Change

Session 3 of the 2010 Innovation Leadership Guru Series*

Location: Your office

Date: Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Time: 1:00pm - 2:30pm ET

Fee: $395

Overview

The most successful leaders adapt their leadership style as conditions change in their organizations. You may be facing the “hidden transitions” that are part of normal growth and downsizing—or coping with a merger, reorganization, or new leadership. As innovation continues to be a key driver for most organizations today, Michael Watkins explains how to steer product development through these often-difficult changes.  He will discuss the critical relevance of leadership style, and how you can master the art of adaptive leadership for success in your changing organization.

Examples of leadership challenges include:

·         The turnaround challenge - assessing the external and internal environments. What happens if the two aren’t aligned? What if the external market for your products is good but your products are doing poorly?

·         Realignment situations when the storm clouds are on the horizon, but the storm has not yet broken. Why and how to teach people that there is a problem. How to make the necessary realignment adjustments in time.

·         What  to do when people have entrenched interests, are in denial of the need for change, or both. How to persuade and guide while building trust.

·         Motivating your team after downsizing has occurred, projects have been terminated (or outsourced), and/or budgets have been cut.

He will also answer your specific questions and offer advice regarding your challenges.
