A little bit on the background of this newsletter (my standard biography appears at the bottom)...
At Management Roundtable, ours is a
"meta-business" - we develop products (educational
events, research and publications) that are meant
to help people who are product developers. Since corporations began chanting the
continuous improvement mantra in the 80s, MRT has tried to satisfy their informational
needs for backing up all the talk.
Management Roundtable's unique value is the deep yet
broad perspective we are able to share with our customers. We've examined hundreds
of case studies, read lots of books, and are privvy to insights and expertise that just
isn't accessible to the average manager or team member.
Don't get me wrong. We don't just parrot back to
you any generic list of "best practices" that enters our field of vision.
We gravitate towards information that we think has value, things that have a combination
of attributes such as being real, being scientifically sound, and being applicable.
Not just impractical theory.
In this newsletter and our many other forums, we hope
to be able to not just share information that can help you improve your business and
minimize the risks of your company's project investments, but to create an intelligent
dialogue around this fuzzy activity we call "product development."
There are no silver bullets and no "one right
way" to get things done. We try to share with you the components that you may
not have known were available to you, and the various configurations of strategy, tools
and process that have succeeded at company's not dissimilar from your own.
Day to day business is often staid, dry, even boring.
When I decided to write this newsletter, I was determined to create something that
wasn't afraid to mix it up, challenge the status quo, and even poke a little fun at
ourselves. While I am often dead serious about the issues I examine, I hope you
enjoy the tone in which it is delivered. One other promise: I will never "dumb
it down".
Thank you for your interest in this newsletter. I
truly hope that it provides you with value that not only stimulates how you approach your
job, but that you can share with others to create conversations that result in the better
creation of value to your own customers. Hopefully, we can also have a couple of
laughs along the way. I welcome any feedback you can offer that will keep me honest
in meeting this goal.
In the newsletter world,
